The Dungeness Crab Festival begins today at 11 a.m. at the Red Lion Hotel parking lot at City Pier with crab dinners, live music on two stages, a vendor market, and family events expected to draw around 10,000 visitors.

Organizers said the three-day event will include cooking demos, a Grab-A-Crab Derby, and a Peninsula College 5K despite losing Coast Guard search-and-rescue demos and military bands due to a federal government shutdown — marking changes from past years.

Clallam County officials are planning changes to cover a $1.9 million budget gap for 2026 without layoffs—using revenue transfers, property sales, and spending cuts.

County Administrator Todd Mielke said the measures, which include $549,000 from water project funds and other adjustments, will avoid cutting any full-time positions.

The Clallam County Commissioners will host a town hall meeting to present the proposed 2026 budget at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the board room in the Clallam County Courthouse at 223 E.
