Port Angeles hosted a record Dungeness Crab Festival where 6,000 dinners were sold + 14,000 lbs of crab were purchased, marking an unexpectedly busy weekend despite a rainy start on Saturday.

Local organizer Rose Thompson noted that visitors from near and far enjoyed the community event.

Peninsula College is set to offer the state's first public safety telecommunicator pre certification program starting this January in Port Angeles.

The course was developed with input from PA Police Deputy Director Karl Hatton (a member on the state certification board) to build a pipeline for new 911 operators.

Clallam County Emergency Management is set to host the Great Clallam County ShakeOut (an earthquake drill with tsunami sirens sounding) at 10:15 a.m. Thursday in Port Angeles as residents and businesses practice the Drop, Cover and Hold On method.

State DOT will close the U.S. 101 bridge over the Hoh River overnight from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. starting tonight to remove scaffolding from the 95-year-old structure, and the bridge will open to single-lane alternating traffic during the day beginning Monday.

Port Angeles schools replaced nine water fixtures after lead tests showed levels above the state limit and completed follow-up tests that found two outlets at Port Angeles High School still exceeding safe levels; one in the kitchen was shut off permanently and the locker-room faucet is restricted to non-drinking use. The school board approved the corrective-action plan last week.

Former local athletes Zoe Ernst at Lower Columbia College and Kendall Hastings at Boise State are thriving in soccer and volleyball.

Friday night, Port Angeles lost 24-12 to Olympic and Sequim lost 74-0 to North Kitsap; girls soccer meets are set for today and Thursday (Bremerton, Olympic, Kingston, North Kitsap).
