COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Food banks across the Peninsula are bracing for a cut to SNAP benefits starting Saturday — Port Angeles has seen households rise from 10,000 in 2017 to 45,000 now with an expected 25 percent increase. Additional state funding is arriving to help, but officials say it will not fully cover a gap that may force reduced services by January.  Peninsula Daily News
  • Clallam County’s North Olympic Land Trust selected the Sequim Farmers and Artisans Market and the Port Angeles Farmers Market as its 2025 Farmers of the Year for enhancing local food access and supporting local farms. They will be honored on November 1st at Field Arts and Events Hall in Port Angeles — a nod to their community service.  My Clallam County
  • Linda Briley sorted through fresh fruits and vegetables at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Wednesday. The Mobile Market, operated by the Port Angeles Food Bank, makes weekly stops at nine locations in Port Angeles and Joyce to offer free food supplies and meals.  Peninsula Daily News

  • The North Olympic Peninsula is set for heavy rain and gusty winds today and tomorrow as an atmospheric river moves in—Port Angeles may get up to two inches of rain overnight while coastal areas face high surf and possible flooding. Rainfall in Sequim is expected to be lighter as the storm continues into Saturday.  My Clallam County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Clallam County Parks is updating its 10-year Parks Master Plan and hosting forums to get resident input on parks, trails, and facilities. The sessions will be held at Guy Cole Events Center in Sequim at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Vern Burton Community Center in Port Angeles at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sekiu Community Center at 9 a.m. Thursday, and Forks Branch Library at 1:30 p.m. Thursday—residents can share ideas to shape the county’s future parks.  Peninsula Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The District 3 girls soccer tournament bracket released last night shows the Sequim Wolves with a 6-9 record will face Franklin Pierce with a 6-9 record at 1:00 p.m. Saturday while the Roughriders with a 13-3 record will host Washington at the same time—both games will be broadcast on KONP Newsradio. In NWAC soccer, Peninsula College clinched its conference titles—its men winning 1-0 and its women winning 4-0 over Bellevue.  My Clallam County
