- ➤ Port Angeles will host Shop with a Hero on Dec. 6 at Walmart on East Kolonels Way—first responders and volunteers will help around 150 children in need find Christmas gifts while working to meet a $30,000 fundraising goal. Peninsula Daily News
- ➤ Port Angeles will host the Winter Ice Village at 121 West Front Street for its eighth year of skating for ages three and older. The village will open Friday from noon to 9 p.m. until Jan. 5—each skater must sign a waiver and a live camera shows rink conditions as volunteers run the rink, presented by the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce. - ➤ Soroptimist International of Port Angeles is accepting grant applications until Nov. 30 to support projects that help women and girls achieve economic empowerment in Clallam County—applicants must request at least $2,000 and follow specific guidelines, with selected proposals presented to club members and awards announced in January and distributed in February. - ➤ Clallam County finished cleaning an old dump site on land planned for the future Dungeness off-channel reservoir, removing more than 30 tons of decades-old debris and contaminated soil (with a $12K county contribution) for public safety. The cleanup came in under budget by $40K, and a three-year groundwater monitoring plan (estimated at $180K) will start soon to remove the site from the state toxics list. My Clallam County
