Good morning, Port Angeles. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 21st of November.

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Forest Policy Board voted on November 12 to extend protections for non-fish perennial streams by moving the buffer from 50 to 75 feet, and the rule will take effect in August 2026. Officials said the change will affect between 69,000 and 180,000 acres—possibly reducing timber harvests in Clallam and Jefferson counties.  Peninsula Daily News
  • Christmas tree permits are now available for purchase online, at Forest Services offices, and at local vendors in the Olympic National Forest—fourth graders with an Every Kid Outdoors pass may get a free permit with a $2.50 fee. The permit helps thin dense stands so trees can grow larger and provide more forage for wildlife.  My Clallam County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Eli Hammel, a city employee, put almost 20,000 lights on a 34-foot Christmas tree in downtown on Tuesday—brightening the area for the holiday season. The tree will be officially lit on November 29 at 5 p.m. when Santa will lead the event.  Peninsula Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Senior Zoey Van Gordon, the leader of Port Angeles High School's bowling team, signed her letter of intent on Wednesday to bowl for St. Mary College in Omaha — a move that sets her on a path to study Biology and work as a veterinarian specializing in large animals.  My Clallam County
