🏘️ Community
Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce, Nesterly, and United Way of Clallam County will launch Olympic Home Share to connect homeowners with spare bedrooms with locals seeking stable housing on the North Olympic Peninsula.
The program offers long-term rental arrangements in exchange for services.
Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue held an awards banquet in Port Angeles to honor career and volunteer members for their service.
The event recognized several firefighters including Teresa DeRousie, Kate Haworth, and Gary Arbuckle (Career Firefighter of the Year) for their dedication and impact.
🎓 Education
Feiro Marine Life Center will break ground for a new building near Pebble Beach Park at 3 p.m. April 8, moving from its old City Pier site.
Construction will begin this summer on the facility that will offer exhibits, a learning center and marine research in partnership with NOAA.
🌲 Environment
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has launched a 12-month review of Olympic marmots (found only in high alpine meadows) to decide if they will be listed as threatened or endangered.
Local experts say climate change and coyotes have reduced the marmot population in the Olympic Mountains.
🏈 Sports
Port Angeles girls basketball clinched the Olympic League title last night with a 63-44 win over Kingston and earned the district’s top seed — they will host the 8 vs. 9 seed game on Feb.
18 and the semifinals are planned for Feb. 20 at Bainbridge High School.
