ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Port Angeles Fire Department and Clallam County Fire District 2 extinguished a 30-foot brush fire in a transient encampment that caused the closure of the Tumwater Truck Route in the 800 block around 4:41 p.m. Saturday, and no injuries were reported during mop-up efforts.  Peninsula Daily News
  • Smoke rose high over Port Angeles on Saturday evening when firefighters were dispatched at about 4:41 p.m. to fight a fire at a homeless encampment along the Tumwater Truck Route near the 8th Street Bridge—propane explosions forced the closure of the route while crews extinguished flames across a 30-by-30-foot area with no reported injuries.  My Clallam County

  • Sequim City Council will hear staff tonight on whether to hold the Fourth of July fireworks show at Carrie Blake Community Park amid concerns that the loud display might disturb eagles nesting half-a-mile away—staff noted that canceling the event could prevent losing a $4,000 deposit and may lead to a review of future fireworks policies.  Peninsula Daily News
  • Libraries in the North Olympic Peninsula felt the impact after the federal government cut funding to the Institute of Museum and Library Services on March 14 and placed its staff on leave on March 31—librarians say the cuts could lead to higher costs for digital books and databases. Officials warn libraries may soon have to reduce programs and find new funding sources—local budgets will be reshaped by these changes.  Peninsula Daily News
