Michelle Olsen was sworn in as Port Angeles School District superintendent at Lincoln Center, replacing Marty Brewer after his retirement ceremony.
The board will discuss renaming Stevens Middle School at its July 24 meeting while Olsen faces budget challenges and plans three new schools by 2029—addressing issues like declining enrollment and state funding cuts.
Peninsula College cut programs and reduced staff to handle a $2.1 million deficit caused by state cuts and upcoming federal changes—while keeping core student services and planning new bachelor’s programs in behavioral health and K-8 teacher preparation.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is the new owner of the Sekiu boat launch on Clallam Bay after its purchase from Mason Family Properties LLC on May 28 (for $2.4 million).
The sale includes about 2.5 acres with a four-lane boat launch and parking (the only developed launch for motorized boats between Neah Bay and Port Angeles) and requires a Discover Pass or WDFW Vehicle Access Pass for day use.
The NOHC board voted to reject Port Angeles’ offer of just over $750,000 for the Lincoln School property planned for multi-family housing—citing that moving artifacts would cost about $2 million.
